Wollongong Heritage Strategy Update 2023-2027

Council respects and acknowledges those who came before us, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our City is built, and all of those who have contributed to the City of Wollongong.
Council wants to work with our community to identify, conserve, record and celebrate our city's heritage, so it can be appreciated today and by future generations. Projects and programs are undertaken by Council, guided by the Wollongong Heritage Strategy.
The Wollongong Heritage Strategy 2019-2022 was adopted by Council in October 2019 and is now due for review.
What has been updated?
A revised Wollongong Heritage Strategy for the 2023-2027 period has been developed with input from the Wollongong Heritage Reference Group and Council. It contains nine broad strategies which align with the State Governments Heritage guidelines and have been updated to give a stronger focus to Aboriginal Heritage, the management of cultural landscapes and capture Council's work around climate change and management of the open coast. The Strategy will guide prioritisation and delivery of Council's heritage programs and projects for the Strategy period.
An Implementation Plan for the 2023-2027 period has also been prepared, which identified core business of Council as well as a range of resourced and aspirational projects. This Plan guides the delivery of the Heritage Strategy and assists Council in making grant applications.
