Council maintains a set of adopted codes of conduct that relate to Staff and Councillors as well as Committee Members, Delegates and Advisors. These Codes of Conduct set the standards of behaviour for Council officials and help staff comply with their professional obligations and maintain high standards of ethical conduct.

The codes are currently due for review. Council resolved on 18 March 2024 to place on public online exhibition, Draft Revised Codes of Conduct for Staff, Councillors, and Committee Members, Delegates and Advisors.

Proposed changes:

A recent review identified a number of enhancements to the Codes of Conduct, including:

  • Additional clauses requiring Council officials to report instances of alleged bullying, harassment and discrimination.
  • A new section on the definition and reporting of sexual harassment.
  • A new clause requiring the declaration and management, of a member of staff undertaking secondary employment in an official or decision-making role in a volunteer environment.
  • Amending a clause to prohibit Council officials benefiting from frequent flyer programs in instances where Council has met the cost of travel.
