Why is the Port Kembla skatepark different to Wollongong and Thirroul?

The Port Kembla Community skatepark is a grass-roots project, where the community has led the consultation and design of the park with the community to date. The Port Kembla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PKCCI) were successful in receiving a $500k grant from the NSW State Government and the Port Kembla Community Investment Fund. Since July 2023, the PKCCI has been working with the skatepark users in Port Kembla to design their dream skatepark. They are now receiving feedback for the preferred location for the site as identified by the community.

Wollongong and Thirroul skateparks are different as they will be funded by Wollongong Council as part of the Delivery and Operational Plan. Consultation with the community on the design will be hosted with the awarded consultant and Council's Engagement Team.

Has a community safety audit occurred for this site?

Council's internal Safety Officer assessed the preferred site with the local Police. The feedback was offered back to the Port Kembla Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will be considered as part of their concept design.

How can I be involved in the design process of Port Kembla Skate Space?
