The management and disposal of waste affects every member of the community and it continues to rapidly increase in cost. Council is responsible for waste removal, treatment and disposal services, and currently manages in excess of 150,000 tonnes of waste per year, costing over $40 million dollars annually.

The Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy represents a pathway for Council and the community to work towards sustainable waste management.

The draft Strategy is being developed through engagement with community and key stakeholders. It is vital that the community understands and accepts the need to avoid the creation of unnecessary waste. The draft Strategy also highlights how to reuse and recycle waste.
