What is Council proposing?

Council is proposing to demolish the existing aged kiosk and residence and install a purpose built cafe/kiosk similar to the kiosks at Bulli and Corrimal Tourist Parks.

    The proposed design includes:

    • elevated covered dining deck overlooking the park
    • paved outdoor seating area
    • a kitchen
    • kiosk and servery
    • two accessible public unisex toilets
    • staff amenities
    • storage
    • landscaping with tables and chairs.
Council is planning to install the purpose built cafe/kiosk by December 2017.  An additional outdoor dining area and a footpath linking the new cafe/kiosk to the public amenities closer to the beach are also included in the plans.

Why is Council replacing the existing facility?

The existing kiosk was built approximately 50 years ago and no longer meets health and food premises code requirements.  It is flood prone and bush fire susceptible.

Investigations have determined a new building will better serve the area.  It will be food premises compliant, flood free and fire resistant.  In addition it will include public amenities and under cover dining.

What are the constraints on the site?

The site is subject to flooding, there is a significant bush fire risk and the location is constrained by multiple underground services and easements.  These constraints have determined the optimum location for the new purpose built cafe/kiosk.

Is the current kiosk heritage listed?

The existing kiosk and residence is not heritage listed.  The local significance of the kiosk to the community is recognised.  A purpose built cafe/kiosk will ensure the community and tourists, continue to have access to an important facility.

How long will the works take?

Once community feedback is received and analysed, Council will proceed with the detailed design and approval process.

Following receipt of approvals and completion of the construction tendering process, Council will demolish the existing buildings and hopes to have the new cafe/kiosk installed towards the end of 2017.

Will there be a temporary kiosk in the meantime?

Yes, a temporary kiosk will be operating from the existing temporary container that is currently on site.

Who will operate the new purpose built cafe/kiosk?

A public competitive process will be undertaken to secure an operator for the new kiosk.  This could be either a tender process or call for quotations in accordance with Council's Procurement Policy.  Either process will be open, fair and transparent.
